Down and Out in Beverly Hills
Published in Paperback by Lyle Stuart (April, 1986)
Author: Ian Marter
Average review score:

Clever and readable novel based on the film
The story of a tramp who finds his way into the household of a rich family, and gradually changes their lives. Being 1980s based, the story reminds us of what we were really like in those days, with our over-reliance on fads (the guru, the dog psychologist, the radio psychologist) and neglect of important issues like homelessness and our own children.

This book is based on the film of the same name, but where it lacks the charisma of the three leading actors, it compensates by fleshing out their characters. There are additional bits ad pieces put in (in the book the son is gay, whereas in the film he is just a bit effeminate) which make it more thought-provoking, but not too serious.

Marter skilfully captures the comedy and mayhem of the film, without losing pace. 'Novelising' a film or television programme is a difficult skill to master, but Marter has managed it. Find a copy if you can!

Educating for the New World Order
Published in Paperback by Halcyon House (June, 1991)
Author: Beverly K. Eakman
Average review score:

An absolute "Must Read" for anyone that cares about children
This is the story of how Anita Hoge investigated and uncovered how the state of Pennsylvania was implementing a psychological test to measure the students' beliefs, yet calling it "educational testing" to unsuspecting students and parents. Those with the "wrong" opinion receive extra "treatment" and the field of education turned away from teaching the basics (Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic). Anita stood up to the education establishment and forced it to obey the law.

This book is an absolute "Must Read" for anyone that cares about what is really occurring in the field of education.

Egan Cassidy's Kid (Intimate Moments, 1015)
Published in Paperback by Silhouette (July, 1900)
Author: Beverly Barton
Average review score:

Touchingly Warm
Egan Cassidy has lived his life by his own set of rules due to the life he has chosen. Always keeping a safe distance from any entanglements or friendships of any kind. Until the day that he receives a phone call from an old nemesis of his telling him that he has a son. The one time that he had become careless was now going to cost him. Maggie was the woman he could never forget after a most heavenly week with her. He left her side thinking that he would hold her face in his memory until the day he died. But fate had other plans. His nemesis had now kidnapped his son and wanted Maggie and him to come get him. He would do anything for Maggie move heaven and earth if that was necessary, but Egan knew what this mission would mean to him. A battle to the death. A fast pace novel which keeps you on the edge of your seat and touches your heart and unknowingly makes you hold your breath wondering what's next. I have read most of the books in the Protectors series and have loved all of Mrs. Barton's books. I only hope that Mrs. Barton continues the series I have yet to try and get a hold of the earlier books but I'm trying, they are worth the read!

The Evidence of Things Unseen (The Zoe Journals , No 2)
Published in Paperback by Word Publishing (May, 1997)
Author: Beverly Bush

The Zoe Journals
The Zoe Journals Book One: Wings of a Dove; Book Two: Evidence of Things Unseen By Beverly Bush.

Zoe, a prayer warrior, fervently prays for her family and records her prayers in her journal. Some of her prayers are included as chapter introductions in these books by Beverly Bush. The reader is able to learn a lot about prayer and the faithfulness of God through this series. In Wings of a Dove, Zoe's daughter has been married to an abusive man for eleven years and the abuse is escalating. Zoe prays for her daughter and grandchildren throughout the ordeal and gives them godly counsel. In Evidence of Things Unseen, Zoe's son and daughter-in-law are devastated when their three-year-old daughter disappears from a store. Zoe upholds them all in prayer while the search for the missing little girl drags on. There are so many truths that are taught in these books besides the effectiveness of prayer and the faithfulness of God. Wings of a Dove teaches what a Christian marriage should be like, how to help a troubled adolescent, how Christ enables us to forgive when it seems impossible, and how God loves and redeems even the "unlovable". The second book has women participating in a Bible study focusing on the character of God from Kay Arthur's Lord, I Want to Know You study. Other themes touched on in this book are the need to be vulnerable and compassionate toward those grieving, how false guilt can hinder your relationship with God and how to help deliver someone involved in occult practices. Beverly Bush is a talented author. Her style reminds me of Mary Higgins Clark, but with a strong Christian focus. The characters are very realistic and have depth. I highly recommend these books and hope to find others in the series to read.
